The short film, titled “The Wise Person Among Us: Kamuran” (İçimizdeki Akil İnsan: Kamuran), was introduced at a Gala held at the Ortaköy Feriye Cinema in İstanbul on Thursday night. The two-minute-long short film narrates a 2012 incident involving a man identified as Kamuran and tries to give a concrete example of how settlement can indeed be achieved.

The video shows a police anti-riot vehicle trying to stop protesters from the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) with water cannons during a demonstration in the eastern province of Van in 2012. Meanwhile, the vehicle is stuck in the mud. Seeing how it is impossible for the panzer to free itself from the mud, Kamuran approaches the police officer controlling it and makes him an offer. “We will rescue you but you will not fire water on us.” The policeman agrees and he leaves the scene, with protesters who were throwing stones at his vehicle just few minutes ago waving him goodbye.

The Young Civilians say what is stressed in the film is that “peace which we think is difficult can indeed be achieved through easy methods.”

In addition to Kamuran, Kadir İnanır and Yıldıray Oğur, who are among the Wise People Commission set up by the government as part of the settlement efforts, were also among the attendants of the gala on Thursday night.
